I know every one of us is now forced to take online classes. I was already taking 2 online classes which is why I have some tips and tricks for you guys. Online school is not like the real school and I believe you guys might have observed the difference. We don’t have actual teachers teaching us and telling us to focus.
When I started taking online classes, I was not really serious about it and I thought that I can study at whatever time I want. But due to this thinking, I was lagging behind and so I decided to make a schedule and follow it.
So, here are my tips and tricks that will help you to focus during online classes!
1. Use A Planner
I highly suggest you all to use a planner because, in that way, you are managing your time well. When you are using a planner, you already know what you have to do during that particular day and you are not cueless. When I started my online classes, I struggled a lot to keep up with what’s going on.
When you are taking online classes, your professor didn’t repeat your assignments that may be due for tomorrow, they just ask you to give your assignments and in that particular time, you just start to hate yourself for not completing your assignment.
I personally use a planner to plan my blogs and to manage my study time as well.
2. Keep Your Phone Away When You’re Studying
This is one of the most important things because you don’t have a teacher looking at you when you are using your phone instead of studying. I switch off my phone when I am studying and in that way, I am away from any and every distraction. You can even use apps that can help you not use your phone. One of my favourite app is FOREST.
3. Be Mentally Engaged
When you are studying from home, you might be physically present during a lecture but maybe you are busy with your phone or cuddling with your pet or maybe cooking something. If you are not mentally present, you are not grasping any information instead you are just wasting your time. Try to be mentally present and to do so you could practise meditation, workout before studying and most importantly wake up early in between 6 AM-8 AM.
4. Take Breaks
When you are at school, you have breaks and when you are in that break period, your mind is in the reboot mode. So, remember to take short breaks and lunch breaks when you are studying online. Treat yourself during the break time and get ready to study once again.
I personally love to make a coffee or smoothie or maybe just pop some popcorns during my break.
5. Study During The Day
If you are someone who gets offline video material (not a live class), try to study during the day. In the daylight, your mind is more active and also you are checking that study thing off your list.
Studying during the day is more beneficial because then during the rest of the day you can simply do whatever you want without worrying about studies.
6. Plan Ahead
When you plan ahead, you are more likely to complete that task before the deadline. Plan your day in advance so you don’t mess your study time with other activities. I did it more often when I started with my college because I was also taking 2 online classes and I was just tired of messing up with things.
So, I started planning my day in advance, it took some days but then everything was in line.
7. Say No To Social Media
It happens with me all the time! Whenever I try to study, a notification just pops on my screen and I waste my time surfing the internet. So, I have this amazing app for MacBook or any other laptop or desktop called COLD-TURKEY BLOCKER. This application just helped me a lot and I am luckily not wasting my study time now.
This app is also super easy to use and the free version is super helpful too.
8. Have A Designated Place To Study
If you are someone who lives with your parents (like me) and you don’t have a study area, find an ideal place to work or study. That place must have enough daylight and must be quiet so that you can easily focus.
I personally have a common vanity and study area so I clean the whole desk before I study. I even love studying in my backyard. So, find your ideal study space.
9. Connect With Your Friends / Form Study Groups
Make study groups on Instagram or Whatsapp and discuss what you studied today, this will help you understand the information. You can even FaceTime your group and study together.
10. Make Study Blocks
Basically, make a time block for studies only. You can study between 10AM-12AM. So, this 10AM-12AM time block is your study time and when you will plan your day the next time, you will not give this particular time for any other activity.
11. Take Notes
Taking notes during a class is what we do in usual but when you are taking online class, taking notes becomes a necessity. Take notes during the class and review them later. Most importantly take handwritten notes. Handwritten notes help you get that information more easily than digital note-taking.
I love colour coding my notes when I am writing them.
Some of my favourite apps to take digital notes includes- Evernote, Notability, MS-WORD.
12. Don’t Be On Your PJs
You don’t go to school or college in your PJs, right? So, don’t study wearing your PJs. PJs are way too comfy and wearing them can make you feel super lazy and unproductive.
So, wear something that you would actually wear to college/school.
I personally love doing a little makeup, do my hairs and wear something that I would wear to college in that way, I am more productive.
And that is it, guys. I hope these tips and tricks will help you focus more during your online classes.
