I have always been a person who believes that habits something that can make you or break you. I’ll be honest with you guys when I say I am not the best person when it comes to habits but this quarantine made me realise that we all do have small habits that we perform everyday, knowingly or unknowingly! These small habits are what will create a big difference in the future.
If someone would ask you what is a Habit? You would, without even noticing reply that habits are those activities that we perform every day and that tends to occur subconsciously.
If you are still not getting my point, I’ll help you with a simple example; we all have a habit to immediately switch on the light when we enter the room! Right? And we don’t even notice it. This. is what a habit looks like. You do it every day and yet you don’t realize that you are doing something.
So, I definitely didn’t mean that switching on the light before entering your room creates a big difference. Or does it create one? Think about it.
We all know that creating a habit takes time and if you are interested to give it the time, you’ll get the results too. So, start by getting to bed early and waking up early. Try to sleep at 9:30 P.M. and wake up by 6:30 A.M. It is surely a good habit because you get a hell lot of time to start your day and be productive.
Or maybe try by working out for 1 hour and repeat this habit for a month. After a month, your body will say you to workout subconsciously. This is the power of building a good habit.
Building a good habit is like farming. You have to work hard and patiently before you get the final result. But always remember that your final result will be worth it and will not disappoint you.
So, take out a pen and paper and write whatever you do in a day.
- I wake up at 8:00 A.M.
- I use your phone just after you wake.
- I go and freshen up after that.
- I do some workout.
- I take Scoob for a walk.
- I binge watch some series.
- I take my class.
Whatever you do, just write it down and after you are done; select which of the following things that you do in a day will pay you back.
For example: In my list, I have mentioned that I wake up at 8:00 A.M. which is not a quite good habit so, I’ll just try to change. So, I’ll just circle it.
Then I use my phone immediately after waking up which is a bad habit so I will highlight it and try not to repeat it for a month or so.
You see the pattern? Circle the habits that are neither good nor bad. Highlight the habits that are bad. And don’t do anything with your good habits! Maybe, do something with them; Embrace them.
So, it is your home-work now to make a list of your activities and them categorise those habits as Bad Habits, Good Habits, Habits that Need To Change. I personally call the last habits Kriti Habits. I don’t know why I gave them my name but mainly because the habits that fall in this category are generally the habits that only I have inherited in my family!
So, make a list and categorize them. Embrace your habits.
